Farmer Feature: Green Cedar Farm
Frank Mazzarino and Sally Shea are the charming owners of Green Cedar Farm, a very special farm located at 3000 feet in Berry Creek. Both retired teachers, Frank and Sally bought their land in 1980 and started the farm from scratch, planting all the trees. They’ve now been farming for over 35 years! They’ve also been at the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market for quite awhile – in fact, they’re one of the first farmers to begin selling produce at the Chico Saturday Farmers’ Market! Frank says the farm is “more of homestead than a farm,” and you really feel that when you visit their stand. Any questions you might have they are glad to answer with kindness, knowledge, and enthusiasm.
They sell variety of beautiful CCOF Certified Organically Grown produce.
Their motto “growing quality organic fruit” couldn’t be more true, but what they don’t mention is just how gorgeous their produce is. They special in heirloom varieties of apples (complete with a history, description, and advice for picking a ripe one!), and sell two types of Asian pears, Seckel pears, Candadice seedless grapes, Venus grapes, french sugar plums, a variety of organic sun dried fruits, and more!
Due to the type of fruit they sell, they usually appear later in the season to market (around August) but it’s well worth the wait! Don’t miss your chance to visit these skilled and friendly farmers this Saturday at the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market!
