Market Feature: Local Spicery

By 18 October 2019

If you love fresh, aromatic spices, you’re going to love Local Spicery, a new additional to the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market! With a common passion for cooking, flavors, and spices, Nick Davoren and his wife Evelyn Wood opened Local Spicery located in Marysville.

While they have only been at the market for about six months, they have been in the spice business for 7 years! The husband and wife duo talked about getting into spices for 10 years, and then turned their passion project into a business.

What makes Local Spicery stand out in the world of spices is that they do everything they can to bring the freshest and most flavorful spices to the community! As soon as spices are milled, they start to loose essential oils and flavor. To combat this, Local Spicery does all their processing themselves! This includes sourcing, milling, sifting, etc. For every chile they use, they de-stem and de-seed by hand. They mill in small quantities – only enough to estimate they will sell out in 30 days – keeping their spices the freshest around!

So for the freshest spices, endless and creative flavor combinations, and some knowledge bombs from very passionate spice makers – come visit Local Spicery this Saturday at the Chico Certified Farmers Market!
