Vendor Feature – Fat Nut Hummus
Say hello to one of our newer market vendors, Fat Nut Hummus!
You might’ve had hummus before, but probably none quite like this. This hummus is made with walnuts. Say what?! You heard that right! This hummus marries the traditional garbanzo bean and the funky fresh walnut to create a new-wave spread that is addictively good. Their classic hummus is made with just seven fresh ingredients: homegrown toasted walnuts, garbanzo beans, fresh cilantro, fresh lemon juice, fresh garlic, cumin, and sea salt.
It isn’t just their hummus that’s good. This woman-owned business has familial roots in walnut farming and has for generations.
Owner Cassi Crowley might’ve just started making hummus this year for the Meriam Park Market, but NicNut Farms, the family walnut orchard that provides the star ingredient, has been around for more than 40 years. The Niclous family immigrated from Germany more than 150 years ago and made their start by farming soybeans, wheat, corn, and even sheep out in the Midwest. They moved to California and started Niclous Nut Farm in 1988, and have been growing walnuts ever since.
NicNut Farms prides itself on being climate-smart, prioritizing practices that recharge the soil, sequester carbon, and protect pollinators. They maintain a high-integrity operation to ensure that they both produce a high-quality nut and protect the environment.
If you’ve got small children, bring them by the Fat Nut Hummus stall to try their hand at cracking some fresh walnuts straight off the farm!
Stop by and try some of their classic product, and get a taste of their new flavor too. Fat Nut Hummus debuted a brand new flavor just last week -Basil! The new flavor has the same ingredients as the classic, but swaps cilantro, garlic, and cumin out for fresh basil. It is divine. If you like basil, you will LOVE this! Keep your eyes peeled, because they are also working on a super special sweet humus that will be perfect for your next holiday party.
Hummus where the heart is. Give Fat Nut Hummus a visit next time you’re at the Saturday morning market!
