Farmer Feature: Road Roaster Coffee Company
Scot and Chris, husband and wife duo, are the proud owners and operators of Road Roaster Coffee Company! Currently located in Forest Ranch, this couple has overcome many obstacles to be able to share their product with the community! “Born of fire” is their motto – After the devastating Paradise Camp Fire, their lives were forever changed. It forced them to start over, so they decided to take the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
Chris always knew she wanted a coffee shop or trailer, so the couple said, ‘”let’s learn how to roast coffee!” They’ve now been operating for two years and just broke ground on their upcoming roastery in Paradise, which they are hoping to have all set up by the end of summer – hopefully leading to a shop or truck later down the road.
They sell two kinds of beans – RR Premium, which is a direct trade where they work with the importer and farmer – and RR Core, beans from family owned farms in central and South America.
Road Roasters is truly community focused: One thing they love about coffee roasting is that they get to meet and talk to other people all over the world who have been through similar things the Camp Fire. “Knowing and meeting people who have all had struggles and prevailed provides so much perspective on life,” says Scot. They care about their community and have a desire to understand it, care for it, and watch it thrive, whether that’s by donating some of their profits to a local auto shop in Paradise (which they do!) or just bringing good coffee to hard working people.
The four things that drive Road Roaster Coffee Company are Community, Charity, Coffee, and Fun! It is clear that they operate both their company and life by those values. We are so happy to see Road Roaster Coffee Co. thriving, and are lucky to have them at the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market. Come see them at the Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday market!
