Farmer Feature: TurkeyTail Farm

By 19 June 2020

TurkeyTail Farm may be new to the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market (this is their first year), but they are certainly not new to farming! Located in Yankee Hill, owners and operators Samantha and Cheetah have been farming for ten years!

You can only find TurkeyTail at the Wednesday market for now, but year round they produce oyster mushrooms, grow-your-own mushroom kits, duck eggs, cut flowers, and a plethora of deep knowledge about each! Outside of the farmers’ market, Samantha and Cheetah produce natural, pasture raised, humanly harvested, chicken, rabbit, and lamb for meat production in Butte County.

As Campfire survivors, this farm has seen it’s fair share of adversity, working hard to restore their farm to it’s previous state. But they didn’t stop there – Turkeytail farm is devoted to providing food for their community, as well as nurturing the mental and physical well being of it’s residence. They provide a farm share to 25 campfire affected families in Concow, delivered weekly, and also established a non-profit called Butte Remediation, dedicated to providing no-cost soil remediation and restoration services to individuals and families in the burn scar of the Camp Fire in Butte County.

We highly recommend visiting TurkeyTail at the Wednesday farmers’ market, chatting with these knowledgeable and incredibly compassionate farmers, and enjoying all the duck eggs and mushrooms you can!
