Farmer Feature: Debbie’s Farm

By 22 October 2021

If you’ve been frequenting the market for years, you are no stranger to Debbie’s Farm! This small farm in Capay prides itself on serving the local community the ripest and sweetest fruit, in a natural way. Debbie herself started selling kiwis (a product the farm is very well known and loved for!) in 1984. This year round farm has 25+ years of experience in farming and has been a longstanding team member at the Chico Certified Farmers’ Market!

With each changing season, Debbie’s Farm brings a myriad of new, exciting produce. Expect a variety of mandarins, oranges, tangelos, Meyer lemons, kumquats, fuyu persimmons, and pomegranates from fall to winter! Come summer lots of stone fruit and a few varieties of cucumber arrive on the scene! Ever tried a pineapple guava? They’re got plenty (more on those below)! If you love farmers with love and experience in their craft and fresh, year round produce, make sure to stop at Debbie’s Farm this week!

Is it a Pineapple… or a Guava?

Neither! The Fejoa (Pineapple Guava) has a subtle, sweet, flavor on the inside. The skin is edible [like kiwi] with a bitter, sweet, flavor. They taste a bit like pineapple and have flesh similar to a guava (hence the name). Use them in fruit salads, smoothies, jams, eating whole, and much more!
