Farmer Feature: Mushroom Adventures
Let’s go on an adventure! A Mushroom Adventure, to be exact. Located on the outskirts of Marysville, this little family-run farm has been growing mushrooms for 25+ years and selling them at market since 2008. Owner Donald Simoni can often be found manning the booth on Saturday mornings, excited to share his knowledge and maybe sell you his specialty: mushroom growing kits!
Several varieties of mushrooms are grown at Mushroom Adventures: Crimini/Baby Bella, Heirloom Portabella, White Button, Shiitake, Oyster, and Lions Mane. These are sold both fresh and dried, so you can buy a little for now and save some for later. Fun fact- dried mushrooms can be ground into a powder and used as a coffee replacement! (Caffeine free of course)
Whatever state they are in, mushrooms are an incredible source of nutrition. Eating mushrooms regularly can help promote lower cholesterol, protect brain health, promote a healthy gut, and boost the immune system.
If mushrooms weren’t cool enough, Mushroom Adventures also grows and sells a few other hearty items. At their stall, you can also find potatoes, garlic, onions, and persimmons! Everything you need to fix up a little breakfast hash or the base for a stew.
Keep your eyes peeled for mushroom growing kits, available for sale later this November! These kits are Donald’s specialty and a super great way to ensure you never run out of mushrooms at home. They offer kits for growing portabellas, shiitakes, criminis, white buttons, oysters, lions mane (pictured above), and one that’s a combo of portabellas and white buttons. The kits come in a box with everything you need inside to grow mushrooms. They’re easy to use and will keep you in mushrooms for 8-12 weeks. They’d make a great gift for family and friends with a green thumb!
