What’s in Season: Winter Edition 🥶

By 3 January 2025

Most people think winter is a barren season, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. While it is true that the variety of fruits and vegetables narrows, it doesn’t go away altogether! There are a whole host of fruits and veggies that you can only find in the winter, along with several that stick around all year round. While this list might not cover everything you’ll be able to find at the Chico Certified Farmers Market, here is a list of what is currently in season, according to the Butte County Harvest Calendar:

  • Kiwis
  • Mandarins
  • Oranges
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Garlic
  • Greens
  • Lettuce
  • Potatoes
  • Spinach
  • Squash

Varying weather conditions, and vendors from out of town often bring other fruits and vegetables not typically harvested in Butte County in the wintertime. The only way to find out what a Chico winter truly has in store is to get out there and visit the market! Both the Wednesday and Saturday markets offer something unique – I challenge you to visit both in the next month!
